Our History

The beginnings of NTFF can be traced to Mr. Delgado’s personal mission to uplift the plight of street children in Manila. He envisioned a home that provides sustainability in young children’s lives. This advocacy provides children with food, shelter, education and health care. It was echoed by his longtime friends and business partners, making this personal mission a reality.

In December of 1989, the NYK-FilJapan Home for the Street Children (the Home) was formally launched and inaugurated by Nellie C. Delgado, mother of Mr. Delgado, and Kiyoshi Osawa, then president of FIL-Japan Shipping Corporation (FJSC), a TDG company based in Manila.

The establishment of the Home is largely significant in TDG’s history as it strengthened the partnership between TDG, FJSC, and their principal, NYK Line led by Jiro Nemoto. NYK Line, a Japanese company, is one of the oldest and largest shipping companies in the world. The Home also introduced a mutual commitment to uplift the lives of underprivileged children and provide them with more promising futures.

As a testimony to their shared vision, solid partnership and friendship, the Fil-Nippon Friendship and Cooperation Foundation was founded in January 1990, which is now known as the NYK-TDG Friendship Foundation, Inc. (NTFF).

“It is perhaps a small drop in the vast ocean of misery but, hopefully, it will serve as a candle to light the way to more similar efforts to ensure every child’s right to a future.”
